Our goal: to create lasting opportunities for neighbors of our community that will enhance their quality of life for generations.
Childhood education
We will work to increase the number of early childhood development and child care options by:
- Establishing a quality early learning with the YWCA
- Establishing a neighborhood charter school for elementary age children
We will work to successfully increase high school graduation rates among youth in our community, and to increase parental involvement in our children's schools by:
- Establishing a neighborhood school with magnet and honors programs
- Attracting existing and new quality parenting programs
- Developing and/or implementing supportive programs in schools for students with special learning and and teen parents
We will decrease the number of unsupervised children and youth in our community by:
- Partnering with existing agencies to implement dance and music programs
- Implement a "Youth in the Kitchen" program
- Partner with existing mentor programs to expand services to those in our community
education
We will support ongoing adult education and job training by:
- Partnering with East Baton Rouge Schools to launch the Career Technology Education Center (CTEC), a center to help students who are ready to begin their career straight from high school or want to dual enroll in technical college courses. The Education Center will initially offer four main areas of focus with different specializations built into each area of study: computer science/information technology, medical, manufacturing and skilled crafts.
- Working with BRCC to provide access to the McKay Automotive Training Center and its program providing specialized classroom instruction and practical shop experience to prepare individuals to engage in the servicing and maintenance of all types of automobiles at the entry level.
health and wellness
In an effort to increase the overall health and wellness of our community, we will strive to increase access to healthy foods as well as medical, dental, behavioral health and fitness providers by:
- Working alongside the Mayor's Healthy City Initiative
- Partnering with the Baton Rouge Mobile Farmers Market
- Collaborating with local providers to establish an affordable fitness center
- Establishing an accessible WIC center
- Establishing accessible medical, dental and behavioral health providers
adult education
We will strive to improve the educational attainment among our neighbors by:
- Establishing HiSET providers in our community
- Partnering with local resource centers and EmployBR to bring adult education resources into our community
We will increase the soft skills, life skills and ultimate job readiness in our community, as well as improve the rates of enrollment/completion of post-secondary and vocational programs by:
- Partnering with local business and community organizations to host an annual job fair in our community
- Connecting potential workers and underemployed workers to EmployBR
- Building upon partnerships with Baton Rouge Community College, Southern University and LSU to provide information about available programs
senior services
We will strive to enhance quality of life for our senior citizens by reducing social isolation and increasing accessibility to affordable medications by:
- Partnering with the East Baton Rouge Council on Aging
- Establishing a Senior Citizen Community Center
- Establishing or (attracting an existing) Adult Day Center
- Developing a safe walking path
- Providing a Meals on Wheels program
- Partnering with local agencies and healthcare providers to educate our community on available resources that provide financial assistance with medications
